Do you keep asking yourself, “What else can go wrong?” I used to do that, too. Then I learned about the hidden power of our thoughts and feelings. By changing my thinking, I completely changed my life.
If you had met me back in 2003, you would have met an entirely different person!
I used to be one of the most negative people.
My thoughts were always focused on the negative, and it wasn’t because of the depression, which can do that. This was 100 percent my way of existing in the world.
There’s one day in particular that stands out as a major turning point in my life: the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in 2003.
ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER
That day, I kept asking myself, “What else is going to go wrong?”
And I kept getting answers . . .
First, my coworker called out, so we were very short-staffed.
Then, a client who came in was in very bad shape and had to go to the crisis center.
Next, I ended up having to stay an hour late just to get all my notes written.
When I finally pulled out of the parking lot, I was saying to myself, “I really don’t feel like driving five hours tonight to go to Tony’s.” And then I got into an accident!
“Oh my God! Is there anything else that could go wrong?” I asked myself.
BREAKING THE PATTERN
Fast-forward to that next weekend: at Borders, I happened to pick up a book about “the astonishing power of feelings.”
The book was Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting, by Lynn Grabhorn.
I bought it, and what I learned was LIFE CHANGING!
I discovered that our feelings, like magnets, have the power to pull more toward us—whatever the feeling is!
My negative thinking and negative emotional reactions just kept “pulling” negative things to me! All I could see was the negative.
THE POWER WAS IN CHANGING MY THINKING
Here’s what I did to start changing my thought patterns (and the feelings they caused).
Every morning, and several times throughout the day, I made a conscious effort to repeat to myself the following phrase, over and over:
“This is a great day!”
Slowly, I found myself no longer focused on the negative. It turned my whole life around!
Go ahead—give it a try!
