Platinum-selling recording artist Demi Lovato’s openness about her mental health and recent apparent overdose can help us learn to face our setbacks and not give up on our wellness.

I felt this was just too important to let go by with out highlighting the wonderful LifeTOOL Demi Lovato is teaching people these days.

In case you may have missed it, Demi Lovato experienced a relapse several weeks ago which landed her in the hospital.

Over the past several years, she has been quite vocal about her mental health and substance abuse.

In fact, I had the opportunity to see Demi up close and in person when she came to our 2014 DBSA NJ State Conference!

This was about the time she started sharing her story publicly.  She truly was as inspiring then as she is now!

She spoke about her struggle over the years, going back to when she was a teenager, with depression, self-harming, bulimia, and substance abuse.

And, how once she had a correct diagnosis, she was finally able to WORK at establishing her wellness.

Just like you and I—she had to WORK AT IT!

So with this relapse, instead of going into hiding, she was posting an update about it on Instagram.

Mental health conditions, just like ANY OTHER chronic health conditions, will look for the moments where the symptoms can take over again.

Relapse is a part of the wellness journey!

The biggest question is:

What do you DO when a relapse shows up?

Demi Lovato is teaching us to face it and focus attention BACK on getting our wellness foundation solid again!

The incredible LifeTOOL she is giving us:

There is no shame in having to deal with relapse!
