Has this ever happened to you?
You’re on your way driving somewhere, maybe to a special event, when you suddenly find yourself going in the same direction as your work!
Or, maybe you’ve had the day off and decided to go do some fun things like shopping, lunch with a friend when you find yourself driving towards work!
Yesterday, I was reminded of how powerful our brains “autopilot” is!
I was on my way to a laughter yoga leader training when I had to wrestle away control of my brain from “autopilot”.
The county has closed off THE major road used to get to town and anyplace beyond!
There are two detours I can take – one that has me heading in the same direction as my old route.
As I was driving that route yesterday, I had to really focus my attention on the need to go in the opposite direction my brain was wanting to go!
I’ve done it once already and had to go down this little dirt road…
This doesn’t just happen when we are driving – it can happen with any behavior or emotional reaction in our lives.
Another word to easily describe this process is HABIT.
Unfortunately, people can become a prisoner to their HABITS and not even realize. (Why I wrote this post!)
