Esperanza Hope To Cope: The Best Way To Manage Holiday Stress!

by Carol L. Rickard

Welcome to the 1st week of December!

I thought it might be a good time to take a look at holiday stress and what
we can do to STAY WELL through the holidays!

What makes stress so challenging is no one person experiences it the same…

This simply means what may be stressful for me, MAY NOT be stressful for you!

With that being said, YOU are going to need to do a little work to identify YOUR stress.

One of my favorite LifeTOOLS to use this time of year is what I call:

“The Holiday Stress Tug Of War”

On one side – we have our health & wellness.

On the other side – STRESS.

Whichever side turns out to be strongest is the WINNER!

Here’s how to use this LifeTOOL:

Step 1 – Click here to print the action sheet.

Step 2 – On Team STRESS side, list all the things about the holidays that stress YOU out.

Step 3 – On Team Health side, list all the things you can DO to cancel them out.

KEY: For each item you list on Team STRESS, you must list at least 1 item for
Team Health! The more you can list to cancel out the stress, the BETTER!

Example #1:

Team STRESS – Dinner at my brother’s house

Team Health – Positive self talk, step outside, set limits, breathing exercise, use supports

Example #2:

Team STRESS – Loneliness

Team Health: Volunteer, get out of your apartment or home, do random acts of kindness,
journal / DUMP, go to DBSA Support group, use online support group / forum, call someone

The question is: Which team will end up being stronger?

So, I hope you can understand how to sue this very powerful LifeTOOL!

If you have a question or need help – leave a comment below & I’ll get back to you.

My wish for you is to STAY WELL through the holidays!

~ To Living Well TODAY! ~
