Has this ever happened to you?

You had a pretty good day the day before, the depression or anxiety seemed to finally be lessening, and you started to feel like your old self again.

But you wake up only to find that’s not the case today…

The depression or anxiety is back today at the same high level was it was before yesterday. You start to ask yourself “Why? What happened?”

You start to feel this instant cascade of disappointment.

Maybe you even think to yourself ‘I thought things were finally starting to get better. Am I ever going to feel like my old self again?’

Don’t let disappointment set you back!

Disappointment can be POWERFUL when it is allowed to take over your life.

In fact, it can paralyze you if you’re not careful.

The brain starts this negative self-talk: ‘You’re right back where you started.’

And yet – this IS NOT TRUE!

Recovery from an illness or injury is a process.

What this means is there’s no constant progress…instead there is movement forwards, backwards, and sometimes standing still.

Ultimately if you stick with the process – you’ll get to your final destination!

Here’s the LifeTOOL to use:

Step 1 – Recognize and acknowledge the disappointment. You can either write it down or just say to yourself ‘I’m feeling disappointed.’

Step 2 – Challenge the negative self-talk: ‘You’re right back where you started.’ Because you ARE NOT!!!

Step 3 – Remind yourself recovery is a process!

This LifeTOOL can help keep disappointment from setting you back.
